It was back to school this week for Territory kids after the mid-year holidays. It's a feeling many of us remember, beautifully expressed in this photo by the demeanour of the girl in the front row, fifth from the right. These are students in the early 1950s at the Hartley Street Higher Primary School in Alice Springs, under the guidance of Mr Kissel, Mr Stiller and Mr Rudd (up the back). This photo was shared on the Northern Territory Library's Facebook page this week and it turned into a bit of a school reunion, with some of the students (now in their seventies and eighties) and their relatives helping to identify those pictured. Great work - class dismissed!

Forgotten Territory was a weekly photo column of historic images in the Northern Territory News which I curated from 2016 until 2019 supported by the collections of the Northern Territory Library and other cultural institutions around Australia, as well as local history Facebook groups.
